THE GATSBY STORY

The Gatsby Story

A New Name:

Hello to all our lovely guests, friends, and family.

Some of you will know by now that we have finally done something massive, something that we have hesitated in doing, since we purchased The Windsor hotel back in August 2017.  We have now officially changed the name!

We thought you might like to know ‘why change name?’ Wont it be business suicide?

The House:

21 King Edward Avenue was built in the 1920’s by a man called Mr Robert Jones-Warren (1876-1961). Robert then lived at number 21 well into the 1930’s, and then moved to North Wales, where he celebrated his golden wedding anniversary in 1949.

The quite large house (3 floors) was then at some point turned into a guest house. As Blackpool grew, many of the grand houses were likewise transformed in this way. On King Edward Avenue and indeed many surrounding roads within our area of North Shore are Edwardian houses which were originally owned by the rich and well to do families in the area, which can be seen by the architecture and quality of building materials used.

The Windsor Hotel:

So, we now move on to the 1960’s, which is when we know for definite number 21 is ‘The Windsor Hotel’. We know this because we still have a lovely couple who stay with us every year and have done so since the 60’s. Its great for them to tell us stories of the place – they know it better than anyone!

The Many Windsors of Blackpool...

Now we come to 2023, why the name change?

Well, unfortunately over the years having a royal named word as the ‘Windsor’ it has been copied numerous times. Although we may have been the original, there is now 7 B&B/Guest house/Hotels with ‘Windsor’ within the name, some with not very good standards.

We are the highest rated and when guests have searched on google to complain, they don’t look at the precise hotel name or the road it's situated. We’ve even had them knocking on our door 3 miles away from where they should be.

The Gatsby Hotel:

Therefore, let me formally introduce to you The Gatsby Hotel Blackpool (but like The Windsor, we will be The Gatsby for short).

All our rooms are now 5-star quality, fully refurbished by yours truly.

For the new signage I wanted to give it a slight Art Deco feel, which I love so much. I put together a few ideas and designs and my great friend and cousin Robert has been there for me every step of the way. He tweaked, redesigned, and finalised the artwork for not just the signage but for screen based and stationary print-based applications.

As a Joiner/Builder I obviously re-built everything behind the signage that you don’t see, I installed new LED lighting modules and then finally, the signage itself.

If you haven’t been to Blackpool for a while, come and see our own illumination and stay at one of the best Hotels in the resort.
